DRAWING FROM NATURE

DRAWING FROM NATURE

"I will paint what I see" would say Georgia O´Keeffe.

Such clarity and honesty produced some of the most imaginative interpretations of nature; be it the elusive immensity of a landscape or the ephemeral freshness of a flower, O´Keeffe´s talent gave color and line a unique expression that we could describe as timeless.

I admire the woman and the artist who turned her back to the frenzy of the city in search of new horizons to pursuit her search for meaning in natural beauty. I can relate to her experience of nature´s vastness and the impact it has on the senses. As an Icelander, I cannot imagine a design that has not been affected or inspired by my relationship with nature!

Taking the collection to Iceland to be photographed by the talented Ari Magg for the Spring Summer Campaign, seemed the obvious conclusion to months of preparatory work.
We walked among the black sand, felt the embrace of the rugged rock formations from past volcanic activity. Orange, deep red and rust shimmered in the light of the summer sun, side by side with organic shades of yarn dyed handknit sweaters and the crisp mélange tone of hemp fabrications. Cotton Fur yarns and satin caressed the feminine silhouette every time the breeze rose.

We found ourselves fully immersed in a sensory experience that transcended the practicalities of a day´s work, and the collection pieces reverberated with the landscape.

I hope you enjoy this collection and what it has to offer: a sense of touch, color and comfort of contemporary design.
