In the photographer´s own words ‘beauty is indeed where you find it’ and Maarten Schets has the innate ability to do so, capturing essence through the trained lens of his camera.
As always MATTHILDUR feels fortunate to have had the Dutch photographer behind the art direction and shooting of the MATTHILDUR collection Mood Autumn/Winter 23/24.
Maarten and MATTHILDUR share the same vision when approaching the subject of fashion photography. Maarten´s great sense of aesthetics and his conceptual staging and styling place Maarten´s photography in the top rank of contemporary photography.
Maarten has traveled with and for the MATTHILDUR TEAM to capture the core essence of various collections and what we want to express at any given time to reflect the MATTHILDUR mood.
This collaborative adventure started back in 2017 when Maarten and MATTHILDUR took a trip to the Paracas National Reserve to shoot in the desert outside of Lima, Peru. Using natural light and a natural stage to capture flawless designs in an ethereal stage of sand, air and coastal nuances.
A trip to Iceland followed in 2018 where the talent of influencer Lyn Slater was translated into an exclusive collaboration, bringing contemporary style and a mature personality together against the breathtaking landscape of ungoverned beauty.
In 2020 Maarten was back in Iceland to shoot the summer collection with Heiða Guðný Ásgeirsdóttir, an Icelandic ex-model turned sheep farmer/ activist in environmental politics. Shooting once more in the natural light, the essence of a woman whose strength is drawn from passion and determination, and where MATTHILDUR clothing approach the body with assertive design that respects the natural form while defining its communicative value.
For the winter mood session of the 20/21 collection, the team traveled to the Sacred Valley in the Cuzco region of Peru with Dutch supermodel Linda Spierings for the photo shoot as a travel adventure; imagining the experience of visiting distant lands and meeting new cultures as an invitation to explore and engage with oneself.
Needless to say, the numerous collaborations of Maarten and MATTHILDUR have enriched the aesthetic vocabulary of the brand's visions to elevate the essence of beauty at all ages, to communicate the vitality of the dressed female form, and to invite the audience to experience, through photographic imagery, mesmerizing place of captivating appeal.
